Opportunities

Stormwater & Stream Restoration Project Engineer (Northern Colorado) - PE

ICON Engineering is seeking a civil engineer to join our Team, with a focus on projects in Northern Colorado. This Team enjoys working on a wide range of stormwater analysis and design including large flood mitigation efforts as well as stream restoration.  These projects are often multi-disciplinary and exemplify all aspects of stormwater and civil infrastructure design.  Project examples may include: technical floodplain analysis using 1D and 2D HECRAS; hydrology studies using EPA-SWMM; design of stormwater systems and stream restoration projects using Civil3D; major drainageway floodplain studies and FEMA map revision preparation; and water quality improvement design. The person who fills this position will assist over the life cycle of these projects, from assessment, planning, design, permitting, implementation through construction.  The ideal candidate will have a passion for stormwater management, flood mitigation, streams, rivers, and watersheds. A highly qualified candidate will also bring experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and computer programs noted above.

This candidate will collaborate with ICON’s project management team and lead technical design tasks.  Work will include mentoring junior level staff.  This candidate is expected to advance their career through project management and senior level project engineering responsibilities.  This candidate will work remotely, out of their home office, ideally in the Northern Colorado area.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze flood mitigation infrastructure
  • Design stream restoration projects
  • Study watersheds, analyze basin characteristics, precipitation, and runoff volumes
  • Design storm drains, detention/water quality systems , channels, and natural drainage systems
  • Floodplain studies and related FEMA flood mapping
  • Stormwater Management, Erosion and Sediment Control, and Master Planning studies
  • Construction plan development
  • Attend meetings and present technical information to clients
  • Work under the guidance and supervision from ICON’s Project Management Team

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s and/or Masters Degree in civil engineering
  • Strong background in HEC-RAS and EPA SWMM, and other H&H modeling software
  • Colorado Professional Engineering License
  • 6 to 12 years of full-time experience in civil and water resource engineering

Stream Restoration Engineer - EI

ICON Engineering is seeking a water resource engineer or engineer-in-training to join our Team. The project work will involve stream assessment, restoration, and stabilization projects as a part of multi-disciplinary teams. There are also opportunities to work on a variety of stormwater and open space projects. The person who fills this position will assist in the assessment, design, permitting, implementation and construction of these types of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for streams, rivers, natural resources, and watersheds. A highly qualified candidate will also have experience/training in hydrology, hydraulics, fluvial processes, and geomorphology.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applying science and engineering to assess and design restoration, stabilization, and enhancement, solutions for degraded riverine, riparian, and urban waterway environments.
  • Work with surveyors, landscape architects, planners, ecologists and others to deliver high quality project solutions.
  • Assess the hydrologic characteristics of watersheds to assess flow regime.
  • Model hydraulic conditions of open channel systems to assist in assessment, design and permitting.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop innovative construction drawings.
  • Prepare outreach materials, attend meetings, and present technical information to clients.
  • Assist with construction services for stream and stormwater improvements. This includes a field presence.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis in water resources or an environmental field
  • EI designation or the ability to obtain within 6-months of hire date
  • 2-4 years of full-time experience in water resource engineering
  • Passion for stream restoration, parks and open spaces
  • Ability to participate in a hybrid working environment that will require an in-person presence
  • Experience working in a team environment. Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to ask questions, seek instruction, and problem solve

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in water resources
  • Coursework in Fluvial Geomorphology, River Mechanics, Hydrometry
  • Training or experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, GIS, or other hydraulic modeling software
  • Passion for streams, rivers, and watersheds
