Major Drainageway Planning and Flood Hazard Area Delineation (FHAD) for Lone Tree Creek, Windmill Creek, and Dove Creek in the City of Centennial and Douglas County, Colorado.

Area and Purpose

The Major Drainageway Planning and FHAD study area encompasses Lone Tree, Windmill, and Dove Creeks in the City of Centennial and Douglas County. The general boundaries of the drainage basin extend from Peoria Street west to Jordan Road and from Interstate E-470 to the Cherry Creek State Park boundary, located to the north of Arapahoe Road. This project is being completed on behalf of the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD), Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority (SEMSWA), and Douglas County. Other public and private entities located within the basin includes the City of Aurora, Arapahoe County, Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater Authority (ACWWA), Cherry Creek Basin Water Quality Authority (CCBWQA), and the Centennial Airport. The purpose of the planning study and FHAD are to identify existing and future flood hazards within the basin and to provide mitigation recommendations to reduce flood damage potential and to provide a framework for future development within the drainage corridor. The planning study will also address the growing requirements and recommendations to address water quality needs within the basin. View a map of the project area.

Goals

It is intended that the project will allow the exchange of information with residents, landowners, developers, stakeholders and project sponsors for the development of drainage solutions. The solutions will address such issues as flood water conveyance; management of the drainage corridors, including stream stability, water quality, recreational and environmental enhancement; drainageway maintenance requirements; and needed future utility relocations to accommodate channel improvements.
